Real Madrid came to an agreement with forward Petr Cornelie for one season, the Los Blancos announced Wednesday. Cornelie is joining the EuroLeague giants coming off a season with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA.

Both in the Olympic Games and in some of the last FIBA windows, Petr Cornelie has been a regular callup in Vincent Collet’s list. However, he was left out of the list for the 2022 EuroΒasket, which will take place in September.

During his time in France, Cornelie played in the Eurochallenge (14/15), the Eurocup (15/16) and the BCL (16/17, 18/19 and 19/20) but this will be his first experience in the EuroLeague.

Prior to NBA and G League experience, the forward/center played for Le Mans and Pau Orthez. He averaged 14.4 points and 7.9 rebounds with percentages of 54% shooting from the field and 44% shooting 3-pointers with Orthez.

Cornelie made his NBA debut with the Denver Nuggets. He did so by playing 13 games, although accumulating a total of only 38 minutes of play. He had a bigger role in the Nuggets’ G League affiliate, Grand Rapids.

In fact, he averaged 17.8 points, 12.7 rebounds and almost 3 assists with 50% shooting from the field and 36% shooting from 3-point range. He had his best game, accumulating 35 points with 15 rebounds and 7 of 8 threes.

Real Madrid has already added three players, with Cornelie becoming the fourth offseason signing. Real signed Dzanan Musa, veteran star guard Sergio Rodriguez and forward Mario Hezonja this summer.
