As officially announced by the Basketball Federation of France, Victor Wembanyama will miss the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket.
Wembanyama has been dealing with an injury he sustained in late June and hasn’t fully recovered yet. Therefore, he has been ruled out for September’s tournament.
“After having sent his last medical examinations to the medical staff of the French team, and after an exchange between the player’s doctor and the national team doctor, it was agreed that it was not possible to integrate Victor Wembanyama in the preparation of the Blues for the EuroBasket,” the Federation’s statement reads.
France will tip off its training camp on Sunday, July 31st, and will play a total of six preparation matches before travelling to Cologne for the group stage.
France will travel to Cologne in late August and will take on Germany, Lithuania, Hungary, Bosnia and Slovenia in Group B of the first round of the tournament.
