Donovan Mitchell trade talks between Knicks, Jazz stall

Donovan Mitchell trade talks between the New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz have stalled out, Shams Charania reports. The NBA insider said there hasn’t be any contact between the two teams the last two weeks.

He referred to the Knicks as the remaining front runner, but several teams around the including the Wizards and the Hornets have involved in talks about the explosive shooting guard.

The focus is still on the Knicks regarding the Jazz interest in any trade due to the wide number of future draft selections they have in their hands. On the other side, the Knicks do not seem to be in a hurry to agree to a deal.

There’s been speculation that the Jazz aren’t intrigued with the most valuable trade chip the Knicks have, that being RJ Barrett. The main reasoning seemed to be due to Barrett being in line for a contract extension that the Jazz may not be willing to commit to.

However, Ian Begley of SNY, the Jazz have inquired about a trade package featuring RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, and ‘at least three first-round picks‘. The Knicks obviously want to salvage Barrett after having his best season of his short career so far the past season.

In any case, the Knicks are set to be a valid destination for Mitchell if they are willing to part ways with youn players and future assets. With Mitchell on board, they’d likely have an even better chance of attracting more talent in free agency or the trade market.
