When Kevin Durant sent in his trade request this summer, it came as a shock for many within the NBA community. The Nets were expected to run it back with Kyrie and Durant, putting some more pieces around the two stars.
However, a recent conversation with Durant’s former teammate and EuroLeague star Mike James revealed that the Brooklyn star told him before the EuroLeague playoffs start. Durant visited Monaco and watched a couple of playoff games between James’ team and Olympiacos
“He called me before the playoffs start, he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna be there [at your playoff game] in like a couple weeks. We fitting to lose,’” James noted during an appearance in Players Choice Podcast.
NBA Playoffs started before EuroLeague playoffs so when James said “before the playoffs start,” he’s referring to EuroLeague playoffs, not NBA. The Brooklyn series was already about to be over, as the Celtics swept Brooklyn emphatically.
A couple of months later, the veteran superstar demanded a trade from the Nets despite signing a four-year max deal at the start of the 2021-22 season.
