Achille Polonara reveals he was close to signing with Virtus Bologna before joining Anadolu Efes

Achille Polonara opened up about his decision to part ways with Fenerbahce and sign with back-to-back EuroLeague champion Anadolu Efes.

The Italian power forward revealed, though, that before joining Efes, he was close to a deal with EuroLeague newcomer Virtus Bologna.

“Ergin Ataman called me. Explaining he wanted me to help defend the EuroLeague title, with an almost perfect Italian accent, I could not refuse.

I was really close to signing with Virtus Bologna but considering the possibility of competing alongside players such as [Shane] Larkin and [Vasilije] Micic cleared all my doubts,” Polonara told Corriere dello Sport, via Eurohoops.net.

At the moment, Achille Polonara is practicing with the national team of Italy, getting ready for the FIBA EuroBasket (September 1-18).
