The Boston Celtics are among the teams that have shown interest to land Kevin Durant and recently constructed a package around Jaylen Brown.

However, the Brooklyn Nets have extremely high demands and want the Celtics to give up more assets in order to agree to a deal.

Boston has paused talks with Brooklyn, as the franchise is unwilling to send too many players and draft picks to Brooklyn for the two-time NBA champion.

In addition, Jaylen Brown was one of the team’s cornerstone players in the 2022 NBA Finals trip. With that in mind, we present two reasons why Jaylen Brown should remain in Boston long-term.

Boston will need to break up its core to land Kevin Durant

With four years remaining in his current contract, the Nets have no intention to let Durant go for nothing. They have extremely high trade demands, as they aim to remain a contender even if the two-time NBA Finals MVP joins another team.

Asking for way too many assets, though, makes it very difficult for interested teams to agree to a deal. When it comes to Boston, they would need to break up their core and start from scatch, as they would have plenty of work to do to build their chemistry.

Fellow NBA superstar Jayson Tatum has repeatedly said he doesn’t want the team to break up its core and wants to run it back with the same roster.

Keeping Jaylen Brown will enable Boston to further improve its chemistry and tip off the season as the favorite for a trip to the NBA Finals, following an impactful offseason, where the franchise signed Malcolm Brodgon and Danilo Gallinari.

In addition to that, Jaylen Brown doesn’t have any plans to leave Boston and league executives view him as a loyal guy that wants to remain with the squad long-term.

“I THINK JAYLEN IS LONG TERM. IF THEY WANT HIM LONG TERM AND THEY’RE GOING TO PAY HIM THE CONTRACT HE DESERVES, I THINK HE’S ALL-IN ON BOSTON. FROM EVERYTHING I’VE BEEN TOLD, JAYLEN’S A LOYAL GUY.

I KNOW FRUSTRATION CAN HAPPEN WHEN THINGS AREN’T GOING WELL, AND I THINK WE SAW SOME OF THAT EARLIER IN THIS PAST SEASON,” AN NBA EXECUTIVE recently TOLD HEAVY.COM’S STEVE BULPETT.

Jaylen Brown has elevated his game and there is still room for improvement

Jaylen Brown has had a meteoric rise since first joining the NBA in 2016. He has gone from 6.6 points in his debut season (2016/17) to 23.6 points per game last year.

The All-Star guard has become one of the best players in the league, especially offensively, but knows he has plenty of room for improvement.

Working on his ball-handling and turnover issues is a priority for the 25-year-old guard, who wants to grow his game extensively moving forward.

Kevin Durant, on the other hand, is entering the final stage of his career, being 33 years old and with his prime years behind him.

Landing the superstar forward will make Boston the grand favorite for the NBA championship, but will hurt the team’s future.

On the contrary, keeping Jaylen Brown will ensure that the team’s future will be bright, as both Tatum and Brown are very young and have a lot of time left to play in the NBA, unlike Kevin Durant.

Jaylen Brown finished the 2021/22 season averaging 23.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists and helped the Celtics reach the NBA Finals. He has two years left in his current contract with the 17-time NBA champions.
