Dimitris Itoudis didn’t like how his players performed against against zone defense in Greece’s 101-78 win over Poland on Wednesday.
The Greek head coach expects opponents to use zone defense against his team, so he wants to see his players improve their numbers significantly.
“We’ve not practiced offense against zone defense that much, just in two training sessions. I think zone defense will be one of our opponents’ weapons against us. Against Poland, it was combined with poor defense from our side.
We expect to see how we will react against Georgia’s zone. It’s a part that we have to work on in these friendlies and in the practices that we have left,” Dimitris Itoudis told media after Wednesday’s win.
Greece will wrap up its preparation this week, facing Georgia (Thursday) and Turkey (Friday). They will then face Serbia (road, August 25) and Belgium (home, August 28) for the Second Round of the Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.
Greece will travel to Milano in late August for the group stage of the EuroBasket, where they will take on hosts Italy, Estonia, Great Britain, Ukraine and Croatia.
