Lithuania defeats Spain to sweep two-game preparation series

Lithuania survived a late thriller over Spain at home (78-76) and swept the two-game preparation series vs the Spaniards.

The Lithuanians were in control in the first half (19-4, 25-17, 39-30), but the Spaniards cut the deficit to three in the third quarter (56-53).

The hosts kept the lead in the fourth but Lorenzo Brown tied the game with 15 seconds to go (76-76). Ignas Brazdeikis hit the game-winner for Lithuania (78-76), as Brown missed the game-tying shot with two seconds to go.

Jonas Valanciunas led the way for the winners with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Lorenzo Brown had 18 points and 5 assists for the losing squad.

Lithuania will play the Netherlands on Friday in its final preparation game. They will then face Hungary and Montenegro (August 24 and 27 respectively) for the second round of the Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.

Lithuania will travel to Cologne for the group stage of the EuroBasket in late August. They will take on France, Slovenia, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary in Group B.

On the other hand, Spain completed its preparation for the EuroBasket and will now face Iceland (August 24) and the Netherlands (August 27) for the BWC Qualifiers.

Spain will travel to Tbilisi in late August to take on hosts Georgia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Turkey and Belgium in Group A.
