Kyrie Irving is invested in playing for the Brooklyn Nets next season, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst reported recently. Despite the reported interest from Lakers, the All-Star looks into staying in Brooklyn the upcoming season.

Irving future remains fluid and the Nets could lose the star guard for nothing next summer, but the NBA insider believes Kyrie is committed to spending next season with the Nets and helping the team win games.

“I think Kyrie is invested in being a Brooklyn Net next year,” said ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. “Obviously there was some turmoil with his contract extension not happening. He realizes his best path moving forward to get the contract he wants in Brooklyn or elsewhere is to have a very good season.

NJ.com reported last month that both Irving and Durant “know” a trade is “unlikely” to happen. The Nets have reportedly been asking for a king’s ransom in return for Durant, one of the best players in league history.

As for Irving, there’s minimal interest in him from other NBA teams due to his inability to stay on the court for a whole season the last three years. In any case, the Lakers were still interested, but Brooklyn has not responded well in any package the LA franchise offers.

“From what I can gather, it appears he and the Nets are looking forward to meeting up in training camp. Whether Kevin Durant is there and his level of buy-in, that’s the big question,” Brian Windhorst said.

“But right now, I think the Nets want to run this team back and they’re hoping Kevin Durant agrees. The way they’re conducting trade talks and the prices they are asking has teams out there thinking they don’t really want to trade Kevin Durant anyway.

They want to bring this team back. We’ll see if Kevin Durant goes along with that in training camp.”
