Golden State Warriors All-Star Andrew Wiggins played a vital part in his team’s 2021-22 championship run. Wiggins appeared on “The VC Show,” with NBA legend Vince Carter and ESPN’s Ros Gold-Onwude to speak about the NBA title and next season’s expectations.

When asked what’s next after he earned his first All-Star selection and championship, Wiggins said his personal goal is making an All-Defensive team in the 2022-23 season. Wiggins did not receive any All-Defense votes last season.

“One thing I’m really going to strive for this upcoming season is being on the defensive team,” Wiggins claimed. “That’s a big goal of mine, and hopefully I opened some eyes in the playoffs so I can be on the radar.”

In Golden State’s Western Conference Finals matchup with Dallas, Wiggins took on the primary assignment of guarding Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic. Doncic shot 41 percent from the field in that series.

In the NBA Finals, Wiggins was the primary defender on Jayson Tatum, who was a non-factor for most of the series. Wiggins also showed off his versatility by defending Ja Morant in the second round but Morant was sidelined for three of the six games the Grizzlies met Warriors.

“I didn’t get not one vote this year,” Wiggins said. “I took it personal in the playoffs. I was like this is my chance to really showcase what I can do and put my name on the radar.”

Only Draymond Green was voted among the best defensive players in the league, while only Gary Payton II was the other Warrior to receive at least one vote.
