Bayern Munich made another great addition with the signing of Isaac Bonga, who joins the Bavarians on a two-year deal, the club announced Friday. Bonga will join the team after four years in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards and Raptors.

The German national is not available for the national team due to ankle injury ahead of the EuroBasket 2022. Last year, he averaged just 0.8 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 0.5 steals in 15 games with the Toronto Raptors spending most of the time in the G League.

He was the 39th pick of the 2018 draft by the Lakers but he wasn’t ready to make any impact in the NBA. Bonga, 22, will have a larger role in Bayern and proved his ability to make a difference during last summer’s Olympics.

In four games in the Tokyo Olympics, he averaged 8.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. The 2.04 meters guard/forward will make his debut in the European level after playing with Raptors 905 in the G League.

There, he showcased his abilities with averages of 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.4 steals through 32 games. Bonga appeared excited on starting fresh with Bayern Munich.

“Isaac is incredibly versatile and talented,” said FCBB sports director Daniele Baiesi about the young player. “He is a modern player whose great potential has not yet been fully realized. We are honored that he chose to do that with us.”
