Spain NT experienced another defeat at the hands of Lithuania Thursday, but head coach Sergio Scariolo claimed he was happy with the team’s effort. Despite having some bad stretches, Scariolo team’s was in a better place than 2-3 days ago.

However, he noted that his team is not ready yet, claiming that some NBA players need to get used to the FIBA style of playing in a limited time. Spain will face Iceland next for the FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.

“Some of the players who have been in the NBA this year are still far from getting used to how we play in Europe. We are waiting for them but we also need a sense of urgency because we have to quickly cover lost ground. I am confident that they can do it.”

Spain NT has three players from the NBA this summer in Juancho and Willy Hernagomez alongside Usman Garuba. All three will play an important part in the upcoming games of the FIBA WCQ and the EuroBasket 2022.

“In general, I am delighted with the attitude of the team. It has been our best game so far and that means growth. We come back from Lithuania with a little more confidence and also some points to work on,” the Italian coach noted (h/t Marca.com).

Spain completed its preparation for the EuroBasket and will now face Iceland (August 24) and the Netherlands (August 27) for the BWC Qualifiers. Then, the team will travel to Tbilisi to take on hosts Georgia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Turkey and Belgium in Group A.
