Germany triumphs over Greece, Giannis to advance to semifinals

Dennis Schroder had 26 points, his team shot 17-of-31 from beyond the arc and Germany decimated Greece 106-97 to advance to the EuroBasket semifinals. Franz Wagner had 19 points on 5-7 threes and Andreas Obst also had 19 with five made three on 7 attempts.

Germany started the game strong and made eight of their 17 threes in the first quarter and took a 22-11 lead. Giannis Antetokounmpo pushed Greek NT back and with 13 points in the first quarter to cut the lead to 4 (31-27) at the end.

Greece surged past Germany in the second quarter as both teams were exchanging buckets as Giannis gave a 46-44 lead to the Greek NT with two free throws. Germany remained poised, but Sloukas gave Greece the highest lead in the team with a half-court heave to end the half (57-61).

The trio of Obst, Wagner, and Schroder inspired the hosts to a huge 20-1 push at the start of the third quarter. Germans made five three-pointers in this stretch and created a solid 15-point lead (77-62). At the same time, the Greece couldn’t make a single field goal for almost 8 minutes.

Giannis terminated the silence with a three-point bucket and a couple of two-pointers bur Greece remained down double-digits (71-83) ahead of the fourth quarter. Germany pushed the lead to 20 points in the fourth quarter as Antetokounmpo was ejected.

Schroder followed his as Germany was cruising to the win to finish the game with an impressive 107-96 victory. The Germans will face Spain, which beat Finland previously, in the semifinals.
