FIBA begins disciplinary proceedings for four players after incident in Georgia-Turkey game

FIBA officially began proceedings to sanction players involved in the incident of the EuroBasket Group A game between Georgia and Turkey.

Proceedings have been opened for Goga Bitadze, Duda Sanadze, Tornike Shengelia, Furkan Korkmaz, and the national federations of Turkey and Georgia.

“When I was talking to the tunnel, our conditioning guy was with me. As soon as we walked out of the tunnel and were trying to reach the locker room, I saw three Georgian players alongside two security guys running at us. We started throwing punches at each other. That’s basically what happened,” Korkmaz said on the incident.

“While Furkan Korkmaz was walking in the hallway to the locker rooms with our trainer, Georgia’s players who were not in the active roster attacked him together with the ejected player (ed.note: Duda Sanadze) and the police. There should not be an attack on the player that goes to the locker room. At the end of the match, 30 policemen each pushed us into a fight,” the Turkey NT said in an official statement after the incident.
