The veteran head coach explained the mindset and the plan behind Spain’s success in men’s and youth level. This summer, the Spaniards dominated the basketball scene in all youth championships, while the men’s team is a step away from the EuroBasket title.
The Italian head coach then talked about the upcoming Final vs France, saying he was happy about Spain defying the odds and reaching the Final, proving doubters wrong.
Sergio Scariolo said people were expecting the team to get eliminated in the first elimination game, but instead the Spaniards advanced to the gold medal game in another major FIBA tournament.
Before finishing his interview with the media at Mercedes-Benz Arena, coach Scariolo had high praise for the star forward and leader of Spain, Rudy Fernandez, calling him the “ultimate winner”.
