Ahead of the last two games of the EuroBasket 2022, we present the players that led the top-4 teams so far with the performances. It’s obvious the MVP should be determined by the winner of the tournament, however here is a list with the players that could snatch the award.
Willy Hernagomez- Spain
Willy Hernangomez is the best offensive big man in the tournament so far. His contribution is a huge for Spain NT, which beat Germany in the semifinal to advance to the Sunday’s gold medal game against France.
This would not be possible without the Pelicans’ bigman. Hernangomez leads Spain in scoring with 17.6 points per game and rebounding with 6.8 boards per contest while shooting 68.8 percent from the floor. Hernangomez rebounding and scoring is vital for the Spanish national team.
He had a massive 27-point performance vs Finland in the quarterfinal and he’s an accumulated +39 when he’s taking the floor for Spain in the 2022 EuroBasket. A big performance in the final against Rudy Gobert will cement his status as the best big of the tournament.
Rudy Gobert- France
Rudy Gobert is known for his defensive capabilities, as the Frenchman is known as a generational defender in the NBA. His defense was there in the EuroBasket for France, which survived to two tough knockout thrillers against Turkey and Italy. He had a double-double of these games.
In both of the these games, Gobert’s presence was unfathomably vital for his team. The Minnesota Timberwolves bigman had an EFF rating of 28 in both contest vs Turkey and Italy. While he missed two FT opportunities to close the game vs Turkey, he domintated in the offensive rebound department.
He averages 13.4 points and 10.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per contest, while he’s a +91 in the tournament and he has averaged a massive 18.9 EFF rating through the EuroBasket. If he remains on the floor against Spain and Willy Hernangomez tonight, he could be the favorite to win the MVP award, especially if France takes the trophy home.
Guerschon Yabusele- France
You know what you can expect from Guerschon Yabusele night in and night out in this EuroBasket. The Frenchman has been one of the most efficient players in the tournament shooting over 50 percent in two-pointers and threes. Against Poland, he had his best game with 22 points in just 23 minutes.
Yabusele is a steady well of production in many aspects of the game for France NT with Gobert and Fournier attracting the interest of the defenses, Yabusele is attempting almost four threes per contest adding four rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He’s a +48 in the 189 minutes he hit the floor in the EuroBasket, while averaging an EFF of 14.4.
Real Madrid swingman will meet his teammate Rudy Fernandez in the wing and his performance in the gold medal game against Spain will be crucial, especially if he keeps shooting the ball efficiently from deep. Yabusele can be a key component of his team tonight, and if that’s the case he could have hope to win the MVP award.
Dennis Schroder- Germany
Dennis Schroder is obviously the best performer of the EuroBasket, at least for the teams that made the Top-4. Schroder put up huge numbers and win a place in the roster of the Los Angeles Lakers. In addition to that, he led Germany to a Top-4 spot for the first time since 2005.
Schroder was unstoppable throughout the knockout phase of the EuroBasket. He went for 26 points and 8 assists against Greece and Giannis Antetokounmpo as Germany downed the ambitious Greeks 107-96. He was also the best performer in the semifinal where Germany lost to Spain.
Schroder exploded for a tournament-high 30 points but that wasn’t enough for Germans, who want to leave Berlin with at least the third place with a win against Poland today. Schroder could be an MVP award winner even if his team won’t win the tournament. He’s averaging 21.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game shooting 43.1 percent from the field in a high-usage role.
Lorenzo Brown- Spain
Lorenzo Brown showed his class in the big stage as he kept Spain afloat with his offense during the semifinal vs Germany. Brown had his best game scoring-wise Friday night with 29 points in front of a full-capacity crown in Berlin. He’s averaging 15.4 points along with a 7.1 assists.
The mid-range maestro has been vital for Spain with Ricky Rubio and Sergio Rodriguez not available. He also had a huge game vs Lithuania in the round of 16 of the EuroBasket, where Spain put the Lithuanian’s hopes to a dent with an 102-94 OT win. Brown finished that game with 28 points and an EFF rating of 28.
Brown has been a plus for Spain when he’s taking the floor in the tournament, while he accumulated a total of 132 EFF averaging 16.5 per contest. His shooting is also massive for the Spanish NT as the Maccabi Tel Aviv guard is putting up 37.9 percent of his attempt from deep and 48 percent of his attempts from the field.
