Mateusz Ponitka officially joins Panathinaikos

EuroBasket breakout star Mateusz Ponitka has officially joined Panathinaikos, his former team Reggio Emilia announced in a press release.

During the recent EuroBasket, Ponitka made plenty of headlines by registering a historic triple-double to lead Poland to a quarterfinals win over 2017 champion Slovenia.

Ponitka, a five-year veteran in the EuroLeague, has career averages of 8.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists with Zenit St. Petersburg,  Asseco Prokom, and Zielona Gora.

He spent the last three seasons with Zenit. According to Sportando, Panathinaikos is expected to pay a €100,000 buyout to Reggio Emlia, who signed the veteran this past summer.

Ponitka averaged 4.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for Zenit last season in the EuroLeague. He had averages of 13.4 points, 5.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds with Poland in the EuroBasket.
