Italy NT hopes to have Paolo Banchero available in World Cup next summer

Italy NT turned its focus to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 after their successful run in the 2022 EuroBasket, where they reached the quarter-finals. Italy will look to have more firepower in the next FIBA tournament.

The president of the Italian Basketball Federation, Gianni Petrucci, was recently a guest at the Sports festival hosted by the Italian newspaper ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ and spoke about the possibility of having Paolo Banchero in the team next summer.

“The chance that he’s gonna wear our jersey is real,” Petrucci said on an interview with Sky Sports Italia. “Our GM Salvatore Trainotti was recently in the United States to talk with his family. Our hope is to have him with us at the World Cup, we definitely have some chances.” (h/t BasketNews)

The no.1 overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft will be undoubtedly a great addition to an already strong team consisted of players like Utah Jazz forward Simone Fontecchio and EuroLeague star Nicolo Melli.

taly has yet to qualify for the FIBA World Cup 2023. Together with Spain, they’re at the top of Group L. Italy will play against Spain and Georgia between November 11-14 in the next window of the European qualifiers.
