Landry Fields shares update on De’Andre Hunter, Atlanta Hawks ongoing talks

The Atlanta Hawks held their annual ‘Media Day’ on Friday. GM Landry Fields shared an update on the team’s ongoing talks with forward De’Andre Hunter. Hunter and Atlanta have until Oct. 17 to agree to a rookie scale extension.

According to Lauren Williams, Atlanta’s general manager Landry Fields is currently working on an extension for Hunter. The team drafted Hunter 4th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.

When healthy, Hunter has proven to be a solid 3-and-D option. However, he has yet to play more than 63 games in a season during his first three years in the NBA.

Last season, in 53 games, Hunter averaged 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He also shot 44.2% from the field and 37.9% from three.

With the Hawks emphasizing on adding more defense-oriented players this offseason, there is no question that the Hawks need Hunter’s defensive prowess ahead of the 2022-23 season.
