FIBA WWC Day 5: Puerto Rico achieves historic feat; Serbia sneaks past France

A huge three-pointer inside the last minute from Sasa Cado propelled Serbia past France 68-62 in Day 5 of the FIBA WWC. Yvonne Anderson had 18 points and six assists, while Jovana Nogic scored 17.

Canada finished 4-1 after an emphatic 88-65 victory against Mali. Kayla Alexander was big for the winners with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Bridget Carleton hit seven threes as she finished with 27.

Australia finished on the top of Group B after cruising past (71-54) Japan to finish the first phase of the FIBA WWC. Center Marianna Tolo chipped in 14 points and six rebounds, while Sami Whitcomb added 16.

Puerto Rico qualified for the Quarter-Finals for the first time after they beat Korea 92-73. Mya Hollingshed had a career game against Korea with a spectacular double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds. Arealla Guirantes also had a strong all-around performance, with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

China continued its red-hot run in the FIBA WWC finishing Group A (4-1) with a convincing 81-55 triumph against Belgium. Sijing Huang finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists to lead her team.

After completing the best offensive performance in the history of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, Team USA set another recordΒ on the last day of the Group phase with an emphatic 121-59 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
