After completing the best offensive performance in the history of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, Team USA set another record on the last day of the Group phase with an emphatic 121-59 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Kelsey Plum led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The 27 game streak is also the second longest in FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup history, only bettered by the Soviet Union who posted 56 consecutive victories.
The Team USA (5-0) won their pool games by an average of 46.2 points and never trailed in any of them. Now they will wait to see who they draw in the quarterfinals. U.S. went to a 33-15 lead to start the game.
The lead ballooned to 63-31 at halftime. Bosnia and Herzegovina put together a small run to start the third quarter, but the Team USA scored the final 19 points of the period. Kahleah Copper, who replaced Jewell Loyd (rest) finished with 11 points.
Nikolina Elez scored 19 points to lead the Bosniaks (0-5), who concluded their first World Cup appearance. Prior to that game, Puerto Rico beat South Korea 92-73 to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time. China routed Belgium 81-55 for second place in the group.
