Pierre Oriola, FC Barcelona officially parting ways

After five seasons, Pierre Oriola and FC Barcelona are parting ways as the veteran big announced in his IG account. The forward/center joined the Catalan powerhouse in 2017 and was named team captain in 2020.

He confirmed the rumors that claimed he won’t be part of the team for the 2022-23 season. Coming off Valencia in 2017, he signed a four-year deal with the Spanish powerhouse.

“Today I put an end to a dream. My dream,”  Oriola wrote (h/t Eurohoops). “Five years wearing the jersey of the best club in the world, defending these colors, and above all always aware of what Barca is and what this emblem means.”

Oriola also played for Manresa in the ACB and Saint Nicolau and Lleida in the second division. The next chapter for Oriola is expected to be Girona, a team owned by former NBA star Marc Gasol.

FC Barcelona has improved the depth in the forward/center position during the past season as they signed Oscar Da Silva, Mike Tobey, and Jan Vesely with Sertac Sanli, Nikola Mirotic, and Sergi Martinez remaining in the team.
