Sergio Rodriguez reveals factor could help Real Madrid succeed this season

Real Madrid has all the tools to succeed at the domestic level and the EuroLeague, per the team’s veteran star Sergio Rodriguez. Rodriguez revealed the team chemistry as the most important factor in potential success this year.

“One of the most important things that Real Madrid has achieved is to maintain its core,” the former Milan man said, via Marca.com. “Although important players have left, those who have come have been able to adapt very well to the rhythm of the game and to what Real Madrid means.”

Madrid started the season impressively by beating arch-rivals FC Barcelona in the SuperCoppa final and winning the first title of the season. Sergi returned to Madrid after several seasons abroad.

Rodriguez played for Los Blancos between 2010 and 2016. Running the team as the point guard, Rodriguez helped the club win a EuroLeague championship in 2016. He hopes he can do the same after the team reached the EuroLeague Final last season.

This summer, Madrid moved from head coach Pablo Laso, who parted ways with the club after 11 seasons with Los Blancos. Rodriguez praised Real’s former coach claiming he helped the team be successful during his first stint in Madrid and referred to the similarities with the current team.

“He (i.e. Pablo Laso) understood basketball in a similar way, pointing out that you have to have fun and enjoy playing. For him, defensive rebounding, defense and then running the fastbreak, having more possessions, was very important. The team had a lot of talent, we scored easily and normally in the games we reached 90-100 points.”
