15 for 15 West preview: Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies had a breakout year last season and aim for a trip to the NBA Finals in the 2022/23 season.

With Ja Morant leading the way and an excellent supporting cast around him, the Grizzlies finished second in the Western Conference with a 56-26 record.

In the postseason, they got eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in six games (4-2) in the Conference semi-finals. However, there is a big if on what the outcome of the series would be should Ja Morant not get injured midway in the series.

Fast forward to October, Memphis wants to take it to the next level and maintain a Top-4 push in the West along with a deep postseason run, which, in that case, would be reaching the Western Conference Finals or the NBA Finals.

Injured forward Jaren Jackson Jr. could be out until January after foot surgery, while his absence will leave the Grizzlies lacking a supreme defensive player for a few months.

The condition of Ja Morant and whether he will remain healthy for the entire season wil determine how far the Memphis Grizzlies will go to the season.

Desmond Bane, who also had a breakout year last season, is playing for a contract next summer. Then it’ll come down to matchups and whether Jackson will be ready to flex in spring.

Tyus Jones, Steven Adams and Dillon Brooks headline the roster as well and will have a key role in the tactics, as Memphis aims to solidify its place as a contender in the West.

The Memphis Grizzlies tip off the regular season with a home game vs the New York Knicks next Wednesday, October 19.
