Durant, Irving were not consulted before Steve Nash’s termination; Nets expected to hire Ime Udoka

Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks told reporters Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were not consulted before the team parted ways with coach Steve Nash. The Nets thought it was time to move on from Nash, per Marks.

Both Durant and Irving played a big role in the Nets decision to hire Steve Nash three years ago. However, Durant reportedly shared his demand to the Nets to fire Nash before asking out from Brooklyn.

Durant eventually took back his trade demand and return to the Nets as he remains under contract for the next three seasons. Kyrie also came close to leave Brooklyn last summer, but a deal never materialized as he picked his player option to remain for at least one more season.

Lately, Irving was involved in another off-court controversy. Kyrie Irving’s most recent controversy was because he posted a Tweet featuring an anti-semitic movie. There is no doubt that promoting hate speech of any kind is absolutely unacceptable.

However, Irving was only reprimanded for his decision to promote a movie that includes anti-semetic remarks.

The Nets and Nash agreed to a mutual parting Tuesday after a disappointing 2-5 start. As Adrian Wojnarowski reported, the Nets expected to hire suspended Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka.

That’s another controversial decision for the Nets. Boston suspended Udoka for the 2022-23 season for an improper relationship with a subordinate before training camp. However, it was known that the Celtics will not stand in the way and let Udoka accept any other job.

Udoka was an assistant for one season under Nash in 2020-21 before becoming the Celtics’ coach and leading them to the NBA Finals. Sean Marks noted that Brooklyn “has not settled” on the decision to hire Udoka.
