ACB Round-up (Week 7): FC Barcelona slips past Marc Gasol, Girona; Zaragoza stuns Real Madrid

Oscar Da Silva had 16 points and FC Barcelona held off Marc Gasol’s Girona 72-69 Sunday night. The ACB newcomers came close to a comeback, but they could not reduce the deficit below three points down the stretch.

Marc Gasol received a standing ovation as he retuned to Palau Blaugrana after spending three seasons between 2003-2006. The veteran star finished with nine points for the visitors, who saw Da Silva shooting 9-of-10 from the field to lead FC Barcelona.

Aside from Oscar Da Silva, Jan Vesely added 14 points and Cory Higgins had 13 points for the winning side, which remained atop the ACB standings with a 6-1 record.

Real Madrid was forced down to 5-2 after Zaragoza succumbed the Whites to a 94-89 defeat. Real Madrid was shocked by Justinian Jessup, who chipped in 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting to lead Zaragoza to its first win of the season in the Liga Endesa.

Mario Hezonja and Sergio Llull were the top scorers for Real Madrid as they logged 17 points each, while Dzanan Musa finished with 16 points. In other games, Baskonia extended its winning streak to four after beating Real Betis 107-103 in OT.
