NBA rumors: Sixers look to reunite James Harden, Kevin Durant

The Philadelphia 76ers has linked to Kevin Durant during the previous summer after the superstar forward asked out from the Brooklyn Nets. The Sixers were hoping to add more star power to their roster as they’re in “championship or bust” mode.

A recent NBA rumor has linked Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant with the Philadelphia 76ers again.Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney recently reported that the Philadelphia 76ers are still pursuing Durant.

In a conversation with an Eastern Conference executive, Deveney learned that the Sixers still have interest in pursuing the Nets’ superstar forward.

Per Denevey, that’s what the NBA executive said:

“There is no doubt the Sixers have asked on Durant, they did in the summer, and will keep asking about him. “But the Nets are going to be a little put off by them already because of the Ben Simmons thing because they feel like they were set up to give away James Harden all along. So the Sixers burned them once, do the Nets want to go back and say, OK, sure, we’ll do a KD deal, too.”

The Nets have experienced early season turmoil after a dramatic offseason where both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were included in a ton of trade rumors. Moreover, the Nets fired Steve Nash after a rough start.

In addition, they are without Kyrie Irving, who is serving a suspension, after promoting anti-Semitic material. The Nets found some balance in the last four games going 3-1 after promoting Jacque Vaughn to the head coach position.

In any case, even if the Nets decide to tear the current roster down and trade Durant, the Sixers do not have the assets to complete a trade of that magnitude. A package including Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey and Mattise Thybulle will not be enough.

The Nets cannot get any future assets in a potential deal as the team has already offered their tradable picks to the Nets in the deal for James Harden. A Durant deal will be almost impossible to pull off for Dary Morey and the Sixers front office.
