Luka Doncic confirms availability for Slovenia NT in the 2023 Basketball World Cup

Slovenia NT qualified for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and Luka Doncic will help the team in next summer’s competition, as it was confirmed by the Slovenian Basketball Federation.

After a tough ending in the latest edition of EuroBasket, where Luka Doncic and Slovenia fell to Poland in the quarter-finals, the 2017 European champions will look to bounce back.

Doncic informed the country’s basketball federation he will play for his national team “a minute after” Slovenia confirmed its place in the 32-team competition that will be held in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.

The Mavericks superstar, who is among the favorites to win the 2023 regular season MVP award in the NBA, led Slovenia to triumph at the 2021 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Kaunas and then to fourth place at the Tokyo Games.

“Luka confirmed his participation a minute after the game (Nov. 14) with Germany, when it was certain that we would go to the championship,” Slovenia Basketball Federation President Matej Erjavec revealed to rtvslo.si.

“To be very honest, we were actually 99% sure already after the (Nov. 11) game against Israel and even then, it was a great joy and a reassurance at the same time. If Luka is healthy, there is no fear at all.”

With the NBA season underway, Luka Doncic is averaging a league best 34.3 points per game for the 9-7 Dallas Mavericks.
