Dimitris Itoudis reveals he had to work with 6 Bucks’ staff members for Giannis Antetokounmpo’s preparation in the 2022 EuroBasket

Dimitris Itoudis made an interesting statement regarding his collaboration with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket.

The head coach of the Greek national team and Fenerbahce revealed that he was in constant communication with the franchise, which wanted to protect its most valuable asset, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

In an interview with Basketnews, Dimitris Itoudis noted that six members of the Bucks’ staff worked with him concerning the Greek Freak’s preparation for the tournament, load management etc.

“In the aspect of approaching and working with the player that is an asset for the NBA team, it’s different. I had to work with six people from the Bucks daily on how Giannis must be treated in load management, the pain he may have, and other things.

It’s not as it is with European players. Maybe we will come to the point where Olympiacos will say, ‘Let’s manage Sloukas this way.’ Maybe Partizan says, ‘Let’s manage Papapetrou this way.’ Or Fener will come and say, ‘Manage Calathes this way,” Itoudis said.

Greece eventually finished fifth in the EuroBasket, with Giannis Antetokounmpo being one of the best players in the competition.

Next summer, he will most likely be available for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and Dimitris Itoudis knows he will need to work with Bucks’ staff again.
