Danilo Gallinari optimistic about playing for Celtics in the NBA playoffs

Danilo Gallinari is recovering from an ACL injury he suffered in late August and is hopeful it will not cost him the entire season.

The Italian forward is progressing well with his recovery and believes he will be ready for the postseason, especially if the Boston Celtics have a deep playoff run.

“My mindset is that I want to play and that I’m going to play at the end of the season,” Gallinari told Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe. “I want to play in the playoffs. So that’s the mindset that helps me get better every day and motivates me even more.”

Danilo Gallinari tore the ACL of his left knee during the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers game against Georgia on August 27th and knew that the recovery would be a long process that could cost him the entire season.

However, he is confident that he will not miss the whole season, even though he is still not close to practicing with the squad.

“I think we’re far from that. It’s not going to happen soon but doing more and more stuff on the court, more heavy stuff in the weight room, going from a jog into an actual fast run, these are the steps I’m looking forward to.

It’s definitely not a lost season for me. That’s the mindset that helps me and pushes me to get better every day. If it happens, it’s going to be great. If it doesn’t, I’m looking forward to next season,” Danilo Gallinari noted.

The veteran forward has a good chance of playing this postseason, as the Celtics are a top contender and favorite to reach the NBA Finals for a second straight year. Boston is currently on top of the East standings with an NBA-best 35-15 record.
