Giorgos Bartzokas had high praise for Olympiacos after its impressive road win over Fenerbahce at Ulker Sports Arena (73-93).
The Greek head coach saw the “Reds” dominate their opponents from start to finish and cruise to an easy victory. Coach Bartzokas called his team performance in the opening quarter a ‘statement’, as Olympiacos was in front by 14 after the first 10 minutes (10-24).
“Obviously, we made a very good performance winning here. It is always difficult. The way we entered the game in the first quarter, playing hard defense, controlling the rebounds and moving the ball a lot, finding the open man, being patient and of course, scoring the open threes, it was a statement in the first quarter. And then we had more faith about the way that we have to play until the end of the game,” the “Reds” head coach said.
Following its stellar play in the opening quarter, Olympiacos led by as many as 30 points (16-46) and never looked back, as Fenerbahce couldn’t come closer than 13 points (66-79).
Six Olympiacos players scored in double figures, with Kostas Papanikolaou (season-high 21 points) and Isaiah Canaan (season-high 20 points) leading the way.
The “Reds” extended their winning streak to four games and stayed on top with a 15-7 record. They now have their sights set on Friday’s home clash with two-time reigning champions Anadolu Efes at the sold-out Peace and Friendship Stadium.
