Baskonia GM addresses Pierria Henry’s suspension amid doping investigation

Baskonia GM Félix Fernández addressed the suspension of guard Pierria Henry in late January after an anti-doping control.

As we have already said, the Basques and the player made that decision after FIBA opened a procedure of the examination of a routine doping control. It is still unclear what has really happened with Henry and whether he had a positive sample.

For his part, Felix Fernandez made it clear that Pierria Henry didn’t return a positive sample, but the club had no option but to temporarily suspend the player.

“Pierria Henry didn’t return a positive sample. We had to suspend him due to the procedure of FIBA examining the sample. We have no other option but to move on from that. This is a lose-lose situation for both us and Pierria Henry.

We are hopeful a solution will be found as soon as possible. Pierria is grateful for the support he has received from the club and fans and that’s very important for him.

He is a special character, charismatic and a great player, however we are still unable to make a prediction on when he will return to the lineup,” Felix Fernandez said.

Pierria Henry, who spent two years with Baskonia (2019-2021), claiming the 2020 ACB title, is averaging 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 6.2 assists and a PIR of 14 over 13 EuroLeague games. He joined the squad in late October.

Meanwhile, Baskonia has won only twice in its last six games and has dropped to sixth in the EuroLeague standings with 12-10 record.
