Giorgos Bartzokas on Olympiacos’ 5-game winning streak: “We are close to reaching our first target”

Giorgos Bartzokas was very excited after Olympiacos’ home win over two-time, defending champions Anadolu Efes (76-70).

The Greek head coach saw his team extend its winning streak to five games and improve to 16-7 in the standings, coming very close to clinching a playoff spot and the home-court advantage.

“Everybody had to step up and contribute. Michalis Lountzis did a great game today, and everybody contributed to get this very important win. We are close to qualifying for the top eight and I think if we win two or three more games we will reach our first target.

A very demanding game against the European champions, a talented team. Our defense was really solid, and if we had better percentages from free throws and open three-pointers, we could have won more easily.

But anyway I give credit to the players and the fans for another great atmosphere in our home court, and good luck to Efes,” Giorgos Bartzokas said afterwards.

With Michalis Lountzis (career-high 13 points and 7 rebounds) and Sasha Vezenkov (23 points) leading the way, the “Reds” played solid basketball on both ends and cruised to another victory.

With 16 wins after the end of Round 23, Olympiacos needs another two or three to clinch a playoff spot. The “Reds” now have three straight road games vs ALBA Berlin (February 8), Valencia (February 24) and Armani Milano (March 3).
