Panathinaikos ends 9-game road losing skid; hands ASVEL Villeurbanne 8th straight loss

In a battle between two already eliminated teams, Panathinaikos rallied past ASVEL Villeurbanne at Astroballe (82-86).

The “Greens” took over after the first quarter (26-20) and used a strong second-quarter performance to take control and never look back. Panathinaikos outscored ASVEL 17-32 to close the first half up by nine (43-52) and went on to win the game, as the French never recovered from that deficit.

“It was a good team win, we needed it. It was a good win for us and confidence for me, just from coming back out last game. I am just happy that we competed as a team, everybody chipped in, and that’s how you win ball games,” Dwayne Bacon said afterwards.

Bacon had 13 points and six rebounds for the winners, on 5/13 shooting, while Paris Lee and Derrick Williams added 13 and 14 points, respectively. Youssoupha Fall was the best player for ASVEL with 13 points and 12 boards, as Nando De Colo posted 12 points and seven assists.

Panathinaikos improved to 10-19 in the standings, but don’t have a chance to qualify for the playoffs with five games to go for the regular season finale. The “Greens” snapped a nine-game road losing skid in the EuroLeague. On the contrary, ASVEL Villeurbanne fell to 8-21 and has now lost eight in a row.
