Crvena Zvezda president says EuroLeague playoff spot ‘was never a sure thing’

Crvena Zvezda president, Nebojsa Covic, attempted to downplay the team’s playoff struggles and the likely elimination from the EuroLeague playoffs.

Covic stated that reaching the postseason ‘was never a sure thing’, while adding that despite the struggles, the club is on its way to a successful season, having already claimed the Serbian Cup.

We bear the greatest responsibility. We lost a large number of games in an unusual way. Nightmare season, but we are still within the framework of the goals we have set.

We won one, we have two more trophies ahead of us. We never said making it to the playoffs was a sure thing before this season,” Nebojsa Covic told the Serbian Radio Television Morning program on Saturday.

Crvena Zvezda missed another opportunity to come closer to the EuroLeague playoffs after their 85-79 road loss to Barcelona on Friday. The Serbians fell to 12-17 in the standings and are three wins away from the final playoff spot.

Being on the brink of elimination, Zvezda has five games to turn things around, where they will collide with Baskonia, Valencia, ASVEL Villeurbanne, Olympiacos and Fenerbahce.
