Karl-Anthony Towns is a step away from his return to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ lineup, after missing four months with a calf injury.

“There is optimism that Minnesota Timberwolves stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards (ankle) could return as soon as Wednesday vs. Atlanta Hawks, sources tell. Towns, sidelined since Nov. 28 with Grade 3 calf strain, is on the cusp of a major return,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

The All-Star big man has been out since November 28, 2022 and has missed the Wolves’ last 52 games. Last Wednesday, Minnesota provided an update on Towns’ condition, stating that he continues to progress and has been participating in basketball activities.

In 21 games this season, Karl-Anthony Towns is averaging 20.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists, on 50.5% shooting from the field.

Minnesota was 10-11 when Towns got injured and has gone 26-26 in the 52 games he has missed. They are currently eighth in the West standings with a 36-37 record, just a game behind the Golden State Warriors (37-36), who hold the sixth place, which offers direct qualification for the postseason.
