One year after missing the EuroLeague Championship Game due to injury, Nigel Williams-Goss returned to the Final Four and claimed the title for the first time in his career.
The American guard got injured during the semi-final of the 2022 Final Four and remained sidelined until November. A year later and fully healthy, Nigel Williams-Goss eventaully claimed the championship in dramatic fashion.
Real edged Olympiacos 78-79 in an epic finale at the Zalgirio Arena and Williams-Goss finished the game with nine points, two rebounds and two assists in less than 19 minutes.
“I told my teammates that I owed them one. And obviously, Sergio [Llull] is the one who brought it home for us. But just to be out here and compete for my guys and be the EuroLeague champion, it’s unbelievable.”
“It’s the Madrid way. We’ve been finding ways the last five games to pull it out somehow, some way. Obviously the veterans were here, Llull, ‘Chacho’, Rudy: you brought it home. But there is something about that in the Madrid water!”
“I mean, he’s just done this for so long, man. No one’s surprised anymore. It’s just another legendary play for a legendary player with a legendary career. I’ll never forget this,” Nigel Williams-Goss told Hedgeout.net and other accredited media afterwards.
Williams-Goss also praised Olympiacos fans for travelling to Kaunas to support their team, as almost 7K “Reds” fans were in attendance at Zalgirio Arena.
This was the fourth Championship Game between the two powerhouses, with the “Reds” having won once (2013) and the “Whites” now three times (1995, 2015, 2023), respectively.
