Nick Nurse has agreed to a deal to become the new head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers and replace Doc Rivers.
Rivers parted ways with the franchise a couple of weeks ago and Nick Nurse was among the top candidates to replace him. Eventually, he will take over a Philadelphia team that failed to reach the NBA Finals for another season.
Nick Nurse spent a total of 10 years with the Toronto Raptors, five of them as an assistant and five as head coach.
He led the franchise to the 2019 NBA championship, but parted ways with the team a few weeks ago, after Toronto’s loss to the Chicago Bulls in the play-in tournament and the elimination from the playoffs.
With Nurse taking over and 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid leading the way, the Sixers will look to return to title contention next season and reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2001.
