EuroLeague rumors: Nikola Mirotic, Barcelona discussing contract termination

Nikola Mirotic and Barcelona have initiated talks on terminating the Montenegrin forward’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2025.

Mirotic is under the most lucrative contract in the EuroLeague, earning around five million euros (net) per year. With the Catalans aiming for a budget cut, though, his future with the team remains unclear.

Per the Home of Glory and Mundo Deportivo, Nikola Mirotic leaving the “Blaugrana” is a ‘real possibility’ and the two sides are discussing the best way to terminate the contract.

“I have a contract with Barcelona and I would like to finish it. But there are players, in basketball and other sports, who sometimes have not been able to fulfill their contract until the end of it,” Nikola Mirotic said after the third-place game vs Monaco on May 21st.

“We’ll see what happens with my future, although – as I’ve said before – I have two more years [until 2025] on my contract. Obviously, I would like to fulfill it, but nothing has been really decided yet,” he added.

Nikola Mirotic joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 and has played in three straight EuroLeague Final Fours (2021, 2022, 2023, as the 2019/20 came to an end in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic) without claiming the title.
