After missing the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket with a serious knee injury, Ricky Rubio wants to return to the national team of Spain this summer.
The Spanish guard of the Cleveland Cavaliers revealed that he will suit up for the reigning European and world champions, if head coach Sergio Scariolo selects him.
“I am in a great physical condition and I want to be there. If coach Scariolo selects him for the preliminary and the final roster, I will certinaly be available for the Basketball World Cup,” Ricky Rubio told Marca.
Rubio was the undisputed leader of the Spaniards in 2019 and helped his team claim the Basketball World Cup title, averaging 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and six assists and winning the MVP award.
The 33-year-old point guard has been playing for more than 15 years for Spain and has won a total of seven medals with the national team in the EuroBasket, Basketball World Cup and Olympic Games, respectively.
Spain will play Brazil, Iran and Cote d’Ivoire in the group stage of the tournament, which will take place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia (August 25 – September 10).
