New York Knicks superstar Julius Randle had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle, the team announced Saturday.

Randle was dealing with the injury for several weeks and had to play through it in the NBA playoffs. Following the Knicks’ elimination from the Eastern Conference Finals, Randle decided to have surgery to repair the damage.

The superstar big man will have plenty of time to recover and the franchise expects him to be ready for the start of training camp in late September.

Julius Randle got injured in early April and missed the last games of the regular season. But, he came back on time for the postseason only to re-aggravate the injury in the opening round of the playoffs vs the Cleveland Cavaliers and miss Game 1 vs the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

Despite his return, the Knicks lost the series 4-1 and got eliminated. Julius Randle averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds during the regular season, earning All-NBA and All-Star honors for the second time in his Knicks career.
