Sergio Scariolo will have a final interview with the Toronto Raptors, as the franchise lists him in the Top-3 candidates to take over and replace Nick Nurse, who joined the Philadelphia 76ers.
According to Josh Lewenberg of TSN Sports, Scariolo and Sacramento Kings’ assistant coach Jordi Fernandez are among the Top-3 final candidates, with Darko Rajakovic also in the mix.
The Raptors are the only NBA team without a head coach right now, as the Sixers, Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns have all hired a new coach.
The Raptors recently flew to Italy and Bologna to interview Scariolo, who spent three years as an assistant coach in the team (2018-2021).
Sergio Scariolo confirmed his meeting with the Toronto Raptors’ front office, as the NBA franchise is in search of its new head coach.
“I have asked and informed the Club about this interview with the Raptors. The Raptors asked Virtus for permission to conduct this meeting, they arrived yesterday, and they left this morning. It was a good meeting, almost like with friends because I won a title with them: I believe that things were done correctly and transparently,” Sergio Scariolo said, via Alessandro Maggi of Sportando.
Scariolo is under contract with Virtus Bologna, but this will not be a problem if he agrees to a deal with Toronto.
