Mike James confirmed he will stay with Monaco for the 2023/24 season amid Olympiacos’ rumored interest to sign him.
The American scoring guard appeared in the Urbonus podcast of Basketnews and said he will be a part of Monaco’s roster this season.
“I didn’t agree with nobody. But I had some questions about my future here that didn’t really get answered. I don’t know if I’m a cornerstone or part of the plan, but I was told I was staying, so I’m here.
“I didn’t get really any answer really, just that I’m staying here for this year, or I’m not allowed to leave or explore anything. Whatever the right verb is right here. I think for this season, I’m here. Free agency is the next summer, and we’ll see what happens.”
According to recent reports, Mike James had attracted interest from Olympiacos, but it looks like the two sides were not close to an agreement. Unless he agrees to a contract extension with the Monegasques, Mike James will hit free agency next summer.
Monaco has one of the strongest backcourt lines in the EuroLeague with the addition of Terry Tarpey and former NBA player Kemba Walker, while Jordan Loyd is expected to miss two to three months after undergoing back surgery.
