Germany stuns Team USA; will play Serbia in FIBA World Cup Final

In a wild semi-final in Manila, Philippines, Germany stunned Team USA (111-113) and clinched its spot in the Final of the FIBA World Cup, setting a battle with Serbia for the gold medal game.

The Germans made an excellent offensive performance and stood tall when the Americans attempted to turn things around late in the fourth. Thus, they advanced to the Final of the FIBA World Cup for the first time in their history. On the other hand, Team USA will play in the third-place game vs Canada.

The FIBA World Cup Final will take place on Sunday, September 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, with Serbia and Germany colliding for the gold medal game.

Germany v Serbia

Serbia have reached the Final for a second time in nine years (2014) and will look to claim the title for the first time since 2002. Meanwhile, Germany will play in their first gold medal game. Germany holds a 3-2 record over Serbia, winning twice in the 2019 FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers and once in the 2010 World Cup.

Team USA v Canada

Canada will be aiming for their first FIBA World Cup medal as they reached the top four for the first time. Team USA will be shooting for their fifth bronze – and 13th overall podium finish. The Americans own a 21-1 record against the Canadians, losing only at the FIBA AmeriCup 2005. It’s their first FIBA World Cup matchup since 1986.
