EuroLeague legend Vassilis Spanoulis has become the new head coach of Greece, the country’s Basketball Federation announced on Monday. The deal between the two sides will be for two years, as the former Olympiacos captain and now head coach of Peristeri replaces Dimitris Itoudis.
“The challenges on the calendar for the National Team during this time are the July 2024 Pre-Olympic Tournament with the aim of appearing at the Paris Olympics and the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers which start earlier, with the aim of appearing in the final phase of the competition,” the Federation’s statement reads.
As a player, Vassilis Spanoulis claimed three medals with Greece (gold in the 2005 EuroBasket, silver in the 2006 FIBA World Cup and bronze in the 2009 EuroBasket).
