Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman is going to face Zeljko Obradovic and Partizan Belgrade on Thursday for EuroLeague round 11. The Turkish head coach spoke about his admiration on Obradovic and why he thinks it is a special game for Panathinaikos’ fans.
“A big challenge for the Panathinaikos fans because Zeljko has a long history with Panathinaikos in the Euroleague. Zeliko is on… another level, he won many titles,” Ergin Ataman stated.
Ataman had gone against Obradovic numerous times during the Serbian’s coach stint with Fenerbahce. Now, they set to face each other in different environments, but the biggest role in Thursday’s game will be played by the players according to Ergin Ataman.
“We fought in Turkey in the matches between Fener and Efes and Fener with Galata. Now I am in Panathinaikos and he is in Partizan. A new situation. We will give our best. Coaches are very important, but players win or lose matches.”
Panathinaikos will hope to continued its strong form against the Serbian powerhouse looking for its 5th consecutive victory in EuroLeague. Aside from Juancho Hernangomez and Ioannis Papapetrou who are out with long-term injuries, the “Greens” will be at full strength.
Partizan (4-6) puts 87 points per game and allows 87.0 having one of the best offenses in the league. However, defense has been a huge problem so far. Meanwhile, Panathinaikos scores 82.5 and allows 79.4 per game having an improved presence in the defensive end in the last few rounds.
