New York Knicks two-way guard Donte DiVincenzo has already made the necessary steps to secure the Italian citizenship as he admitted recently. DiVincenzo born in America with an Italian family herita hopes to represent Italy in the Olympic games this summer.

The Knicks sharpshooter revealed his intention to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post (via BasketNews). If everything goes according to plan, DiVincenzo could be eligible for selection the upcoming summer if Italy confirm its place in the Olympic Games.

“Ideally, I would love to,” DiVincenzo admitted. “Logistically and how everything plays out, I don’t know if it’s possible. But if everything works out perfectly, I would love to.”

The Italians are set to compete in the Puerto Rico qualifying tournament with the opener being on July 2 against Bahrein. The Gianmarco Pozzeco group will face Puerto Rico on July 4 to end the first round of the tournament.

A Knicks deep playoff run can prevent DiVincenzo from helping Italy NT

In a potential Knicks’ deep playoff run, the sharpshooting guard could be unavailable to play for Italy NT in the Olympic qualifying tournament. The Knicks are sitting on 33-21 being a top-4 seed in the Eastern Conference before the NBA All-Star break.

“…it’s something I told my family, my agent, that I wanted to do — to be able to represent a country. And hopefully I can get all the paperwork done and be out there as soon as possible.”

The former Bucks and Warriors guard is having a breakout year averaging 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists through 54 games this season
