Nemanja Nedovic says he won’t play again for Serbia NT

Nemanja Nedovic revealed that he won’t be helping the Serbia NT going forward admitting that last summer’s presence in the national team’s World Cup preparation was his final summer in his national team career. The Crvena Zvezda point guard left the Serbia NT preparation before the start of the World Cup tournament in August.

As he revealed then, Nedovic was not at his best regarding his form going into the tournament and decided to forfeit his place in the team. During an interview with Sport Klub, Nedovic said he will not return to the team for the upcoming international competitions leaving space for the younger players coming behind him.

“I finished with the national team last summer during the preparations for the World Cup.” My body could no longer withstand the extra effort, because I need more and more time to recover. Years don’t decrease, they only increase, just like the club seasons are getting longer, you can’t wait for vacation,” Nedovic said.

“If I’m going to devote part of that period to the national team, there comes a point when you can’t do it anymore. And I also got my daughter Talia then. I became practically ‘split in half’, I couldn’t take it anymore. The younger ones are coming.”

Nedovic will focus on helping Crvena Zvezda return to prominence after a disappointing EuroLeague campaign. The dynamic guard is averaging 13.8 points, 2.6 assists and 1.7 rebounds shooting 40.5% from beyond the arc. Zvezda only notched 11 wins in 31 games so far this season.

Nemanja Nedovic career with Serbia NT

Nemanja Nedovic appeared in the Serbia NT ranks from a young age starting as the star of U20 Serbia national basketball team in 2009, 2010, and 2011 at FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. He made his Serbia NT debut in 2012 and helped a young Serbian squad to make the 2013 EuroBasket.

He missed the Basketball World Cup 2014 due to injury, but returned for EuroBasket 2015 under head coach Aleksandar Đorđevic. The Serbian guard finished the tournament with averages of 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game on 52% shooting from the field as Serbia NT finished 4th losing to France in the bronze-medal game.

Nedovic was also part of the team that won the Silver medal in the 2016 Olympics as Serbia lost to the USA in the final game of the tournament.
