D’Angelo Russell shares thoughts on future with Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are in the roll lately and D’Angelo Russell is among the top contributors. Russell will become a free agent this summer and he has already expressed his interest to remain with the Lakers’ organization in the future. The former Nets’ star has a player option for next season but he can opt to bypass it and become a free agent.

Russell is experiencing an amazing bounce back after losing his place in the Lakers’ lineup amid a horrific stretch in November. The one-time All-Star is averaging 22.0 points and 6.8 assists during his last 31 games. At the same time, he’s shooting 44.9% from 3-point range opening the floor for Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

As far as his future goes, D’Angelo Russell wants to stay with the franchise and continue to thrive as one of the most beloved players of the Lakers’ fanbase.

“I’d love to be here and continue to give it a run and be where my feet are now,” Russell told in an interview on HoopsHype (h/t USAToday). “Obviously, I’ve been on the other side of it, and I’ve been through the roller coaster of free agency and having to sit back and wait.”

“I’m looking forward to not having to worry about that. I’ve been blessed enough to put myself in this position with my play. I’m definitely planning on taking advantage of that. When that time comes, I feel that everything will play out how it’s supposed to play out.”

D’Angelo Russell was re-inserted into the Lakers’ lineup on Jan.13. Since then, the storied franchise went to win 20 of the next 32 games and they are standing pat inside the play-in picture with 41 wins and 32 losses.

D’Angelo Russell adds another shooting masterpiece in Lakers’ win over Memphis

D’Angelo Russell continued his post-January massive run with another shooting masterpiece in the Los Angeles Lakers 136-124 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum on Wednesday. Russell stayed on the court for 29 minutes and scored 23 points on 5-of-9 three-point shooting to help the Lakers nab their 5th straight win.

The Lakers were coming off a hard-fought OT victory over Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. The Lakers stormed back from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter and beat the Bucks on the road without LeBron James who sat out with an ankle issue.

Against the Grizzlies, it was time for Anthony Davis to remain out, as the postseason is fast-approaching for the James and co. The team return to action on Friday hoping to extend their streak to six wins against Indiana.
