The national team of Germany officially announced that coach Gordon Herbert will leave the squad after the end of the 2024 Olympic Games in the summer. Per the announcement, the reason for Herbert’s departure is his desire to join a club full-time.
“This is the result of a friendly conversation between Gordon Herbert and DBB President Ingo Weiss and DBB Vice President Armin Andres. The contract will be terminated on August 31, 2024,” the statement reads.

Gordon Herbert spent three years with the Germans, helping the team emerge as a powerhouse in the European and international basketball. After a third-place finish in the 2022 EuroBasket, Germany claimed the gold medal in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
The veteran coach had an offer to take over ASVEL Villeurbanne earlier in the season, but the German Federation rejected it. It is unclear if he will attract interest from EuroLeague teams once the season is over.
